There is a double Cup bill in Berwick this weekend. On Saturday, October 14th, Berwick Rangers host SPFL 2 rivals Annan Athletic in the Second Round of the William Hill Scottish Cup. Berwick will want to do much better than when the teams met in a League game on the same ground in August when the Galabank men romped home 5-1. Rangers have since changed their manager and new boss, Robbie Horn, who enjoyed a good Cup run last season when at the helm of Juniors Bonnyrigg Rose, will be hoping that Saturday’s game will be the launch pad for something similar for the Black and Gold. Kick off at Shielfield is at 3:00 p.m. The club is offering a special hospitality deal for the match ( see the Trust Facebook for details ).
Almost a year since they inflicted a humiliating Scottish Cup defeat on Berwick Rangers, Hawick Royal Albert are back in town on Sunday, October 15th to play local East of Scotland League club Tweedmouth Rangers in the Second Round of the Football Nation Qualifying Cup. The Lowland League side will be favourites to win this one but, like Tweedmouth, have been struggling this season. Rangers did cause a surprise when they knocked out local rivals Coldstream at Home Park in the previous round. The two teams who reach the Final of the Football Nation Cup qualify to compete for the City Cup along with SPFL members Berwick Rangers and Edinburgh City. Sunday’s match on Old Shielfield starts at 2:30 p.m.
There is more football locally on Monday night ( October 16th ). Back on the main Shielfield pitch, Berwick Rangers play Stirling Albion in the SPFL Development League East, kick off 7:45 p.m. Berwick’s Under 20s will be aiming to build on a good performance in last Monday night’s 2-1 success on the plastic surface at Alloa as they meet the young Binos for the first time this season.
