Berwick Rangers Supporters Trust has been led for the past six and a half years by our Chairman, Michael Smyth. He has indicated for some time that, in part due to personal circumstances, he wishes to stand down and has been seeking a replacement, and I’m truly honoured that he’s asked me to become the next Trust Chairman and that his nomination has been supported by the Trust Board.
My promise is that I‘ll do all I can to maintain the high standards Michael has set to uphold the ideals, objectives and constitution of the Trust, when I assume the role at the start of next season. On behalf of all supporters of Berwick Rangers, may I thank Michael sincerely for his service to our Club.
Also stepping down at the end of this season is Bill Purvis, our Membership Secretary, having been a founder member of The Trust in 2003 and having spent 14 years in that role. That’s a shift; so again, may I say a heartfelt thanks to Bill for his hard work and commitment to The Trust and our Club.
My thanks to both, and my fellow Board Members, for making me feel so welcome and part of a group that makes a real difference to the prospects of our Club. We have a fantastic team on the Trust Board and a robust legal constitution which gives us a strong platform to work even more closely with our Club and The Supporters Club to help mould the future of BRFC positively.
As our Trust Board Member, and BRFC Chairman-Elect, passionately told us at the open forum on 30thMarch, no matter what shape our future takes, there has never been a more important time to step forward and lend support.
At the last count, we have 220 Trust Members who will be proud of our history of over 130 years; hard though it may be to think positively, with the Club Board’s strategy in place, The Trust Board stand firmly together with The Club Board to seek to stabilise, and progress, and make a new chapter in our history. It may be an initial step back to ultimately move forward once again, but equally, history is full of great clubs who have done the same. If the worst happen, we will be another.
Cohesion now, and in the future gives Berwick Rangers Supporters Trust a chance to make a tangible difference towards the best possible future, by helping raise funds, attracting sponsors, and lend a guiding hand to how, in your opinion, these funds can best be used for Berwick Rangers Football Club; to really strongly want to, and become that Twelfth Man.
