Reserves go down in Final
Berwick Rangers Reserves were beaten 3-1 by Spartans in the King Cup Final on the bowling green surface of St. Mark’s Park in Edinburgh on Saturday, June 1st. Their cause was not helped by the sending off of Grant McNicoll on receiving a second yellow card late in the first half.
Kenny O’Brien scored Berwick’s goal after three minutes. Spartans levelled with a 35th minute header from Alasdair MacKinnon. The same player headed the Edinburgh team in front straight after the break.
Keith McLeod scored a third goal for Spartans in the 77th minute. Immediately after this, Josh Morris hit the post with a penalty when Dean Carse was brought down.
Even with ten men, the Reserves played some good football. O’Brien was often dangerous, Ross Brady’s workrate was again outstanding whilst Ben Miller, who had been farmed out to Musselburgh Athletic, made a diference when he came on just past the hour. However, Spartans were favourites from the outset and it was skipper and former Berwick player Robbie Manson who received the Cup on their behalf.
