For the second time in four days, a Berwick Rangers team was on the wrong end of a 7-1 scoreline. Following the first team’s loss to Queen’s Park at Hampden in SPFL 2, the Reserves went down to Raith Rovers Reserves by the same margin on Tuesday night ( January 29th ) in Reserve League 2.
It was Berwick’s first game following the midwinter break and should have been at home. It was switched to Kirkcaldy to protect the Shielfield pitch with successive SPFL 2 home games coming up versus Annan Athletic and Stirling Albion.
Berwick’s Reserves had already chalked up two wins at Stark’s Park this season but this time they were hit by two goals from Jack Smith inside the opening ten minutes. Smith went on to score a third with Kieron Bowie’s goal putting the Fifers firmly in the driving seat with a 4-0 interval lead.
David McKay, Jamie Watson and Euan Valentine netted in the second half with Grant Rose getting Rangers’ consolation. To compound matters, the match finished late due to a power failure.
The result leaves Berwick at the foot of the table behind Stirling Albion ( 7th ) and Raith ( 8th ) on goal difference, all three teams presently on 6 points.
