ARBROATH 5 BERWICK RANGERS 0 ( Saturday, May 2nd, 2015 )
This was a disappointing end to the season for Berwick Rangers at Gayfield. Berwick had the better of the exchanges in a first half which had an end of season feel to it but they couldn’t cash in and it finished goalless. Devon Jacobs was at right back with Jonny Fairbairn starting at left back to accommodate Kerr Young and Stephen Tulloch as the centre back pairing. Ben Miller was in midfield.
A piece of individual brilliance led to Bobby Linn’s goal in the 52nd minute and seven minutes later, the same player supplied the cross for Simon Murray to double the lead. Murray got through in similar fashion to Linn’s opener to make it 3-0 on 67 minutes. Lee Currie the previous week, now Tulloch was red carded as ‘last man’ for pulling an Arbroath player off the ball and Thomas Grant hit a superb free kick into the top corner of Michael Andrews’ net. The Rangers’ keeper will want to forget the final goal, beaten by the bounce of Richard Little’s lob from inside his own half.
The official attendance of 564 seemed an exaggeration but there was no doubt that the number of Berwick fans present was small and for some, the miserable experience of the match was compounded by long delays on the Forth Road Bridge on their way to it.
