The future of Rangers FC is rightly generating a huge amount of discussion in Scottish football and we recognise that this is a very important topic for our members, for a wide range of reasons.
The Trust Board is due to meeet at 19.00 in The Pilot Inn on Wednesday evening to discuss arrangements for consulting with our membership. The outcome of that consultation would then be notified to Berwick Rangers Football Club as the formal view of the Trust membership. We will be seeking assurances from the Football Club that they will take full account of that view in deciding how to respond to the proposals set out in the attached documents, given that it will represent the membership of one of the Football Club’s biggest shareholders.
The Trust chairman, Colin Pike, contacted Berwick Rangers FC chairman Brian Porteous on Friday 29th June to find out what approach the Football Club intended to take in responding to these proposals. The Football Club will be represented at a meeting of all SFL clubs in Glasgow on Tuesday 3rd July; note that our understanding is that a formal decision on responding to the newco proposals will not be made at Tuesday’s meeting, though given the fast moving nature of this story things could change very rapidly, so keep an eye on developments in the media.
What this means is that we seem to have a relatively tight timescale for consulting with our membership. We also need to find out when the BRFC Board is meeting to decide on their response so that we can ensure our views are reported to them for consideration.
The 2 key proposal documents are attached here for you to download and read before making your decision.
Please check the Trust website for updates on our consultation with you.
Interested readers may wish to check the Clyde FC official statement in response to the proposals, which can be found on their club website.
