With Berwick Rangers’ matches at home to Elgin City and Stirling Albion being postponed and a visit to Peterhead scheduled for this Saturday, Feb. 2nd, Berwick fans need not be starved of Shielfield action for a third succesive weekend as the Reserves are due to play at home this Saturday, weather permitting. Opponents are East of Scotland League newcomers Burntisland Shipyard, who as full members of the S.F.A., have participated in the Scottish Cup for many years. In 1977, they hosted Berwick Rangers in a tie which Berwick won 4-1. It is thought however, that this is the first time they will have visited Berwick for a match.
The Reserves stayed in contention for promotion from the EoSL First Division with good wins in their two opening games of 2013, 3-1 at Gala Fairydean and 5-0 at Hawick Royal
Albert before snow put paid to the eagerly awaited visit to league leaders Coldstream on January 19th.
They got some valuable match practice last Friday night, Jan. 25th, drawing 2-all with Juniors Dalkeith Thistle at Berwick Rangers’ training centre at Forrester in Edinburgh. Big Kevin Haynes, a member of Berwick’s SFL Third Division Championship winning side of 2007, scored one of Dalkeith’s goals.
Saturday’s match with Burntisland kicks off at 2:30 p.m. Season tickets are valid for entry with paying admission at £4 and £2 ( concessions ). Match programmes ( £1 ) and refreshments are also available.
