11.30, Saturday, 14th January 2012 in the Main Function Room at the Black & Gold Social Club, Shielfield Park, Berwick-upon-Tweed
All Trust members and prospective members are invited to attend the Trust’s AGM on Saturday, 14th January – Rangers are at home to table-toppers Stranraer later that day.
A copy of the AGM agenda ia attached – please note that as a costs saving exercise we decided not to print & post out the agenda this year, but you can download it from here. A small number of hard copies will also be available for distribution at the meeting.
We’re pleased to be able to report that we will have the following guest speakers attending the AGM:
· Brian Porteous, BRFC Chairman
· Ian Little, newly-appointed BRFC Manager
· Alan Harris, Chairman of Supporters Direct (Scotland)
Brian has attended every one of our AGMs since he took over as football club Chairman, and we look forward to seeing him again.
This will be Ian’s first supporters’ organisation meeting since he took over the reins from Jimmy Crease, so it will be very interesting to hear his thoughts on the teams’ prospects for the rest of the season and future plans.
Alan Harris is a lifelong Glasgow Rangers supporter and shareholder – but don’t hold that against him. Alan has an interesting background in the game, as a fully qualified referee whose career includes highlights like reffing England v Northern Ireland at Wembely in 1987 during the old Home International competition.
Alan’s involvement in the supporters trust movement grew out of his passionate belief in fan ownership. Having been elected as Chairman of the recently-formed Scottish Council for Supporters Trusts, which is working in partnership with the Scottish Government, Alan is keen to promote the continued growth of the supporters trust movement and develop community involvement. Supporters Direct (Scotland)’s response to SFA restructuring proposals (which have significant implications for Berwick Rangers) reflect the organisation’s commitment to improving Scottish football in the fan’s interests.
You will have a chance to put questions to Brian, Ian and Alan during a question and answer session which will follow after each guest speaker has said their piece.
Reappointment of the Trust Board
Our constitution requires the Trust Board to be reappointed every 2 years. All current Board members have indicated that they would like to stand again, though there is still a desperate need for new blood. We are permitted a minimum of 5 Board members and a maximum of 15, so we’re currently 4 short of the ceiling. If you’re a current Trust member and aged over 16 you can put yourself forward to become a Trust board member. Simply send an email to the website giving the following info – name/address/telephone & email contact details/ Trust membership number/up to 400 words explaining why you think you’d be an asset to the Board – no later than Wednesday, 11th January. If there are more than 15 nominations to join the Board, voting will be conducted by a show of hands at the AGM. The 15 candidates with the most votes will be appointed to the Trust board for a further period of 2 years.
The Trust Board members who have put themselves forward for reappointment are:
· Colin Pike – current Chairman
· David Cook – current Vice-Chairman
· John Bell – current director representative on the BRFC Board
· Gordon Dickson – current Treasurer
· Bill Purvis – current Membership Secretary
· Ron Kirk
· Keith Hall
· David Spence
· Steven Scott
· Michael Smyth
· Dale Jones
Appointment to the various positions on the Trust Board are made at the first meeting of the Board following the AGM.
The Trust Secretary is Karen Thorburn. The Secretary is an official of the Trust and the position is appointed to rather than elected to.
We look forward to seeing you on the 14th January, and to hear what you have to say about how the Trust Board is doing.
