Berwick Rangers Supporters Trust held a successful Annual General Meeting in the Black and Gold Club at Shielfield last Saturday, December 17th. It was not an election year for membership of the Trust Board but one member, Gary Smith, has stepped down because of other commitments.
After the formal business was concluded, Berwick Rangers manager John Coughlin gave a short but frank talk about the team and also answered questions from the floor. A point he highlighted was the frustrations around taking bigger clubs’ Development team players on loan with their frequent unavailability to play for Berwick for one reason or another.
Guest speaker, Ian ‘Pea’ Oliver, first team kitman and a long serving stalwart behind the scenes at Shielfield then addressed the audience. He confirmed that, now aged 77, this will be his last season in an official capacity with the club. He related some funny incidents from his time with Berwick Rangers as well as giving opinions about some of the nineteen managers under whom he has worked. ‘Pea’ added that he had met a lot of nice people connected with Berwick and other clubs. Coincidentally, he picked out that day’s opponents Montrose as one of his favourite ‘other’ clubs, ‘’A great set of blokes’’.
**Ahead of the Montrose match, Trust chairman Michael Smyth presented a cheque for £2,670 to Berwick Rangers F.C. chairman Len Eyre. This money covers the cost of the much needed new, heavy gates recently installed at the vehicle entrance to the Shielfield stadium just along from the club shop.
***Two days before the Trust AGM on the evening of Thursday, December 15th, Trust representatives attended a tri-party meeting along with those from Berwick Rangers Supporters Club and several members of the football club board. A range of issues was discussed and it was agreed there should be another meeting in the coming months.
****The Board of Berwick Rangers Supporters Trust sends season’s greetings to all members with best wishes for 2017.
