Berwick Supporters Trust Chairman Colin Pike has resigned from his elected position on the SD Scottish Council. Colin was elected in the elections held at the beginning of last year by members from the Scottish Trusts eligible to vote at that stage. Due to the number of votes he received Colin was elected to serve for a 3 year period. At this same time Dr Alasdair Galloway from the Clydebank Trust also felt he had no option but to resign whilst Chairman Alan Harris, also of the same opinion, was given no option but to resign, despite having put a huge amount of work into various projects on behalf of Supporters Direct.
Colin takes up the story….we (the elected council) tried to lay plans to take the organisation forward whilst attempting to satisfy the requirements of the Scottish Government, the only future funding option at a time when existing funding had expired. This did not find favour with the SD Board who disagreed with our plan at every step, interestingly enough even although they are now adopting those self same plans as part of their ongoing strategy.
Colin has allowed us to reproduce the letter of resignation he sadly felt he had to send to the Supporters Direct Secretary,
The farcical proceedings at Stirling done nothing to dilute that view, indeed I witnessed an out pouring of bile and hate that I have scarcely witnessed, certainly not amongst those purported to be colleagues. Compound that with the underhand campaign that had and was taking place and the complete lack of interest in doing anything about it from the board I left Stirling that day disillusioned and hugely frustrated at an organisation that prides itself on transparency and fair play. There was none of either at Stirling that day.
Then this last evening Alan Harris was treated with complete disrespect, and left with no option but to resign.
Working in an organisation, as I do, in which we care for, and look after those unable to do so themselves, I do not care to be associated with those that plainly do not hold similar views. Infact the opposite appears the case in my opinion.
Finally, how SD will carry forward the values of an SFSN concept when clearly there is no appetite for such amongst the Scottish SD membership will be interesting to behold as will the reaction when the funders contemplate failure.
Yours in sadness
Colin Pike
